St. James holds annual ‘Blessing of the Animals’
St. James on the Lake Episcopal Church, located at 10707 Kaufman County Road 4022 (near the entrance to Cedar Creek Country Club) will hold its annual Blessing of the Animals at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.
If you would like to have your pet blessed, come to this wonderful service. It is attributed to St. Francis of Assisi who is the Patron Saint of Animals. St. Francis was birn in 1181 in Assisi and died in the 13th Century in Assisi. His name was Giovanni Francisco Bernardone, and he was the son of a wealthy merchant who gave up his considerable wealth to become the founder of the Franciscan order. He preached to birds and tamed wild animals to live in peace with others.
It is said that on his deathbed, he thanked his donkey for taking him where he needed to go in his life, and the donkey wept. The Feast Day of St. Francis is October 4.
Chili Dogs will be served after we bless the dogs!
