Make a Difference is set for October 24
The Rotary Club of Cedar Creek Lake will be sponsoring the 8th annual Make a Difference Day event on Saturday, October 24.
Make a Difference is a national event, created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, where volunteers provide assistance to those who can not provide for themselves.
Projects range from mowing a neighbors lawn to collecting clothes for the homeless.
All activities must be documented and turned in to Tiffany Lilly at State Farm Insurance on Hwy 198 in Gun Barrel or to Kathi Nailling at the Cedar Creek Pilot in the Gun Barrel Village shopping center.
The documentation of participation will be logged and used to exhibit the time and effort made by those in the community.
It will then be sent in to USA WEEKEND Magazine to possibly be selected for honors, headlines and charitable donations.
Ten honorees from across the nation will be chosen for their charitable donations in April. They will then be spotlighted in USA WEEKEND Magazine and on the magazines Make a Difference website.
Ten thousand dollar donations from Newmans Own (the late Paul Newmans food products and charitable organization) will be made to the charities of the 10 honorees.
All community members are encouraged to participate in either their own project or one that has already been scheduled.
Organizations and individuals who have already set up projects across the community on Saturday include:
Enchanted Oaks Ladies Club - food drive; birthday bags for Family Peace
Mabank School - canned food drive;
Environmental Corp.- working with two or more precincts doing a clean up;
Kemp Jr. High - Rachels Challenge canned food drive;
Genesis Center - providing drinks for dance team dance-a-thon;
Eustace School - will offer services;
Karen Kelso - taking her dogs to the nursing homes to visit the residents;
Gun Barrel Masonic Lodge - Blood Drive at Wal Mart;
Rotary Club - October 22 Clothes for Kids; Dictionary give away to Mabank 3rd graders; Book give away to Kemp and Eustace schools; dry and canned food drive for the three local food pantries;
Dance Connection needs a room for dance-a-thon, prize donations, t-shirts, food and beverage and live bands to help.
Genesis Center needs someone to cut down a tree for them.
If you would like to donate dry or canned goods for the Rotary food drive, donations may be made at the Cedar Creek Pilot or State Farm Insurance, Tiffany Lilly.
