Defending the Humne Society
Dear Editor:
I would like to respond to and answer questions posed in a letter published June 25 in the Pilot concerning the Humane Society of CCL.
The Society every year conducts many fund raisers including a garage sale, golf tournament, art auction and many events sponsored by the great people at Friends Nightclub.
The Greater Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce has been instrumental in networking with the local business community expressing the needs of the Society.
The Wal-Mart distribution center in Palestine provides a lot of much needed food during the year. It is hoped that a better relationship can be established with the local Wal-Mart. In the past, the Society was given a very short time to pick up damaged food before it was discarded. With a limited and overworked staff this is not always possible.
The few employees at the shelter work in difficult conditions but still do a wonderful job. The many wonderful volunteers devote a lot of personal time and their own resources to make the Society a better organization. I know many of these people and their dedication is truly amazing.
The response to the recent crisis has been tremendous. Thank you Cedar Creek Lake. Thank you Texas. God Bless you all.
Sincerely,
Rick Norris

Thanking an anonymous donor
How do you thank anonymous? The local friendly newspaper is a great way.

The government, the hard workers, and the down on their luck
When George Washington and his ragged band of rebels won our liberty from the British, they earned for us the right to stand on our own two feet and pursue happiness for ourselves.

Stick to the issues
It saddens me to see Betty Brown attempting to spread lies about her opponent being a district outsider. Lance Gooden was born and raised in Terrell and Betty knows this. Betty herself even briefly left the district to attend college before she dropped out and returned back to Terrell. Unfortunately, Betty continues to push this lie outside of Terrell, knowing that the folks in Lance’s hometown know better.
She should not try to distract voters from the real issue, her lack of effectiveness.
