Gun Barrel City — Dear Editor,
Re: Carol Price letter of Jan. 21, 2010: Carol - there you go again. Let me in just a few words say what I think our new leader has accomplished in the last year. He has bailed out AIG, bailed out the automobile industry (with the exception of Ford, which took no bailout money and is doing better than the others), bailed out the banking industry and attempted to establish a government-run health plan with so many disturbing facets I can’t even remember them all. Who do you think will foot the bill for all these government run plans?
I thought the Nobel Peace Prize should be awarded to someone who contributed to “peace” not someone involved in two wars at the time he received it, (for someone who produced a film about global warming).
As to the ability to speak, does this mean our president can now pronounce nuclear to your satisfaction. Sorry, Carol, that’s a shot, but being a great speaker does not make you a great president. And btw, those “organized to block any efforts a democrat might have” simply want to block most efforts liberals have, whether they be democrat or republican. I’m not the only one who believes some of his efforts should be blocked...have you checked his approval ratings lately?
Let’s just agree to disagree, Carol. I think an old adage I used to say to my father probably applies to both you and me. It says: “My mind’s made up, don’t confuse me with the facts.”

Look Who's Guarding the Henhouse
In 1998 Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were instrumental in getting legislation through President Clinton requiring banks and other mortgage companies to "look the other way" and give mortgages to homebuyers who could not afford the payments on the homes they were looking to purchase. In many cases, these applicants had no down payment.

Fire Dept. issue needs to be resolved
I have been a resident of Henderson County and the city of Tool for seventeen years. I have been appalled by the ESD No. 4's unwillingness to compromise on the use of our tax dollars. The citizens of Tool voted for an ad valorem tax to upgrade the cities fire department, fire fighting equipment and firefighting training. ESD No. 4 quickly jumped in to misappropriate our tax funds for their own use.
