Letters to the Editor
Change the name
Dear Editor,
Don't you think we should change the name of Washington, DC (District of Columbia) to Washington, CM (Chicago Machine)?
Under this administration, they have passed legislation in the dark of night and on Christmas Eve. They have closed-door meetings in the White House after hours with no members of the opposition party nor even one journalist in attendance. This is in direct violation of the privacy act. Obama says the administration is not accountable.
These practices are extremely secretive, all from a president who promised on the campaign trail the "most open administration ever." He even promised he would post all bills on the internet so that all citizens could read them.
Instead, even the legislators themselves haven't read them.
It seems the more loudly citizens complain, the more secretive and hasty they become. How can we combat this?
We cannot. We can only contact our representatives, keep them aware of our concerns, and then when election time arrives, ask candidates if they will continue these secretive practices.

Look Who's Guarding the Henhouse
In 1998 Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were instrumental in getting legislation through President Clinton requiring banks and other mortgage companies to "look the other way" and give mortgages to homebuyers who could not afford the payments on the homes they were looking to purchase. In many cases, these applicants had no down payment.

Fire Dept. issue needs to be resolved
I have been a resident of Henderson County and the city of Tool for seventeen years. I have been appalled by the ESD No. 4's unwillingness to compromise on the use of our tax dollars. The citizens of Tool voted for an ad valorem tax to upgrade the cities fire department, fire fighting equipment and firefighting training. ESD No. 4 quickly jumped in to misappropriate our tax funds for their own use.
