War of words?

Dear Editor,

We concede. The liberals can definitely best us on the number of words they spew voicing their opinions. However, here is a conservative rebuttal.

Nobel prize - Most other recipients actually earned their prizes prior to their nomination. Our current president was awarded his on "anticipated" achievements. The jury is still out.

Economy - The "mess" that the liberals say we are in was caused mainly by one thing. In the nineties, Clinton and the Democratic Congress decided that every family in the U.S. should own a home and ordered that all mortgage companies, especially Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, approve all applicants regardless of whether they could actually pass the credit ratings much less make the payments. This led to the banks taking many bad debts, bundling them, and selling to banks around the world leading to our financial downfall as well as the downfall of many European banking institutions. Of course, it also led to many citizens losing their homes or incurring foreclosures.

Bailouts - President Bush and the Democratic Congress continued the practice started above leading to further financial shortfalls and then began the bailouts which where a giant mistake and this has been continued by President Obama and the now Democratic Congress. Many top economic experts both Democrat and Republican say this has worsened the situation we are in. Doing absolutely nothing would have been much more productive.

Healthcare - Sixty-two percent of the American people do not want any part of the bill that the Democrats are cramming down our throats. And yet they continue to force it on us, even "buying" votes to get it to pass. They should toss it out the window and begin again with both parties AND the American people actually participating in a bill that works for all of us. That smooth-talking president of ours promised transparency. I haven't seen it yet.

Jobs - President Obama has added jobs to the tune of two million new jobs. One million are Census workers whose jobs will last less than one year and the other one million is the number of government jobs he has added, all of which claim more taxes to pay their salaries. Not one new job has been added to privately-held companies under this president. Not much to boast about there.

Bad policy - Once again, liberals think that conservatives play "follow the leader" regardless of how wrong their leader's policies may be. Bush made many mistakes while in office. Continuing those policies as Obama has done is wrong especially when Obama promised to do exactly opposite of what Bush had done. Where is the "change" he promised? His policies are more hurtful to our nation than any president in recent history. Should we continue on the track he has put us on, our country will be completely socialistic or perhaps communistic in less than ten years.

  • Look Who's Guarding the Henhouse

In 1998 Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were instrumental in getting legislation through President Clinton requiring banks and other mortgage companies to "look the other way" and give mortgages to homebuyers who could not afford the payments on the homes they were looking to purchase.  In many cases, these applicants had no down payment.

  • Fire Dept. issue needs to be resolved

I have been a resident of Henderson County and the city of Tool for seventeen years. I have been appalled by the ESD No. 4's unwillingness to compromise on the use of our tax dollars.  The citizens of Tool voted for an ad valorem tax to upgrade the cities fire department, fire fighting equipment and firefighting training.  ESD No. 4 quickly jumped in to misappropriate our tax funds for their own use.
