Reader corrects errors
Dear Editor,
I noticed some erroneous information in the BINGO story in the Jan. 21 edition of The Cedar Creek Pilot. The story reports on the Jan. 12 meeting of the Gun Barrel City Council.
Pilot/ADR writer Art Lawler refers to “East Cedar Creek MUD,” whose name is really East Cedar Creek Fresh Water Supply District, as a private company. If it were a private company, it would not hold elections every other year from the general public for the seats on its board of directors.
These directors are elected the same way members of the city council are, and most have expertise in the area of water systems, engineering or law and finance.
The story also attributes this error to GBC city manager Gerry Boren, who knows better than to call East Cedar Creek a private company. Since I was out of town and unable to attend this meeting, I don’t know exactly what he said and must rely on the accuracy of your reporter. If Boren did call it a private company, it is to support his argument that the city should control the meters East Cedar Creek is purchasing from the City of Mabank.
Gun Barrel City is moving to block the sale, even though the city doesn’t have a drinking water supply nor a wastewater processing facility and hasn’t even offered a competitive bid to Mabank for the purchase of it’s meters.

Look Who's Guarding the Henhouse
In 1998 Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were instrumental in getting legislation through President Clinton requiring banks and other mortgage companies to "look the other way" and give mortgages to homebuyers who could not afford the payments on the homes they were looking to purchase. In many cases, these applicants had no down payment.

Fire Dept. issue needs to be resolved
I have been a resident of Henderson County and the city of Tool for seventeen years. I have been appalled by the ESD No. 4's unwillingness to compromise on the use of our tax dollars. The citizens of Tool voted for an ad valorem tax to upgrade the cities fire department, fire fighting equipment and firefighting training. ESD No. 4 quickly jumped in to misappropriate our tax funds for their own use.
