Burglary under investigation
MABANK- Nearly $60,000 worth of property was stolen from Tri-County Ford owners last Wednesday evening.
Andrea Gibbs Pickens and husband Joe Pickens found their home located on Hwy. 198 broken into with several items and cash missing.
Andrea Gibbs Pickens, Tri-County Ford owner arrived home from work around 5:30 p.m. to a broken window and missing property.
The burglary happened between 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m when she and her husband, Joe Pickens, were away from their home.
Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case to find suspects and make an arrest for burglary charges.
According to a Van Zandt County Sheriff’s report, suspects broke into a window at the east side of the home, causing $2,000 worth of damage to the home.
Missing from the home was 180 silver dollars, gold coins, cash money, shotguns, rifles, a diamond ring and other jewelry, all totaling $57,350, the report stated.
Also missing was a $300 safe that held important legal documents such as birth certificates and car titles.
“The person or persons responsible knew what they were looking for,” Mr. Pickens said. “To find the safe, you would have to know where it was.”
The investigation to the breakin will include anyone who has been in the Pickens home over the past year.
A foot print was found on the carpet.
According to a Van Zandt County Constable, C. B. Wiley, there were no immediate witnesses. One neighbor was home around 8:30 a.m. and never saw anything unusual.
