Seven Points VFD gets new equipment
SEVEN POINTS — Newly-elected Seven Points Volunteer Fire Chief, Joe Dobbs, has hit the ground running in an attempt to improve the controversial department, which recently went through a change of officers in a private vote of members.
“We got $25,000 worth of equipment, like computer equipment, laptops, to put in trucks, desk tops,” Dobbs said.
The donations came from the Texas Department of Insurance.
The equipment is not new, Dobbs said, but it is in good working order.
He credited firefighter, Michael Taymen with finding the equipment through several telephone calls.
The department’s volunteer firefighters recently voted Dobbs into the position long held by Mike Earnheart.
Dobbs is on 90 days probation. At that time, it is up to the city council to decide whether or not to retain the new chief.
In addition, Dobbs reported that three of the department’s volunteers will also be going to a Texas A&M Fire School.
Those firefighters include Tayem, J.W. Brenham and Don Van Hus,” Dobbs said.
Since the department’s former officers were criticized by some members for a lack of transparency in its bookkeeping, Dobbs has also implemented new procedures.
“I’ve got purchase orders for all shipments,” he said. “We also ordered accountability tags for every piece of equipment.
All of it, he said, now they all have tags and serial numbers.
