Seven Points hires new police chief
Acting police chief Brad McConahay has taken over as the new chief of police in Seven Points.
This comes after former chief Tim Meadows was unexpectedly fired in early September by Mayor Gerald Taylor.
“He (Meadows) was dismissed due to a lack of confidence,” Taylor said.
Mayor Taylor then appointed former assistant police chief McConahay as acting chief.
According to McConahay, it became official.
When asked if he wanted the job as chief, McConahay said, “Yes, of course.”
McConahay has been making changes.
His first change was to eliminate his old position as assistant chief and replace it with two sergeants positions.
“That means there will always be one officer and one supervisor on duty at all times,” McConahay said.
McConahay said the change is necessary to help officers working alone to resolve problems they encounter.
“A supervisor will always be there to take care of the problem right then,” McConahay explained.
The citizens of Seven Points will soon be seeing a new Camaro patrolling the area.
This new patrol car is part of the traffic division McConahay is starting to “hopefully help cut down on accidents and speeding on Hwys 334 and 274,” he said.
