The why of my display ads
My greatest joy is reading one of my spiritually-centered poems in a church setting. I have never found any other situation, that seems to bring me closer to the joy of God’s presence. As a relatively new member of the Cedar Creek Lake community in Texas, I discovered this joy in the First Presbyterian Church of Mabank. My desire to finally join this church approximately a year and half ago, solidified my decision to make Gun Barrel City, my retirement home.
This article is not so much about the First Presbyterian, but about the importance of our church community in the Cedar Creek Lake area. Whether you are a “Full-Timer” or a ”Part-Timer” in the lake area, if you are not attending a local church on a regular basis, you need to consider in investing the time to attend services at a local church, better yet, make one of these churches, your church home.
To the many of you that are nearing retirement, the churches of the Cedar Creek area are the core and center of community life in the lake area. Within their walls, you will find the spirit of God dwelling, and awaiting your arrival. They can easily become in its members, the extended family you never had. The friends that are there for you in the darkness of times. The spiritual food that will assist you in overcoming depression and sickness.
During these hard times in this depressed financial economy, churches in the lake area are suffering from lack of membership and support, as many business are also suffering. The value of a church in a community goes beyond another “eating place.” Many churches take sometimes a century or more to grow and develop to a church body that impacts a community in a positive way. These churches need your attendance, as well as financial support in the times that are ahead of us. In many cases, community churches are the only resource of hope for the hopeless. Also of importance to the lake area is that the future leaders of our community will come from these church homes.
In the last month, several have asked me, “Why are you running that weekly display ad?” It is my hope that reminding our community members, who are either not church goers, and or, members of a local community church to consider making a commitment today to join the great community of Cedar Creek Lake churches. You will be happier for doing so, and your community will be the better in your doing so.

Making a small difference, could mean a big difference
Here I go again. As many times as I am told that this county is drug and crime ridden, I know better. Not that I don’t think we have our fair share of crime, we do.

If we could only live in a ‘Perfect World’
Last week I had several e-mail correspondences with a reader of the local papers. Her concern was that our front pages only print crime or bad news.
