Cantania Grants and Allie Cass led the Eustace effort.

"Our post played a great ball game for us, said Coach Dallinda Cassel. They have been consistent throughout district play. We need to get the ball to them more on offense."

Cassell praised her team's effort on the boards, both offensively and defensively.  “Our goal for the second round in district is to go 3 and 2 which is very achievable.  If we will do the little things right we can win the ball game.  It hasnt been the big picture that has cost us games;

"It has been the little mistakes. We plan to correct those and end district 3 and 2.

Canton rolls past Kemp in 14-3A showdown of unbeatens

CANTON — The battle between two unbeaten 14-3A opponents turned into a night of disappointment for the Kemp Lady Jackets as they took a 52-36 beating.

Coach Kent Smith wasn't happy with what he saw, and it wasn't all just mistakes from his team.

" I do not want to lay blame on the officiating," he said.

However....

"It played a huge role in what happened,” Smith said. 23 to 7 was the foul count in their favor.

"More significantly, we had two players foul out," he said. "Nineteen of their 52 points came off free throws.  We never got into a 1 and 1 situation since they only had 3 and 4 fouls each half,” he said.

And to some it up:

"As I said, I am not laying blame of the outcome on the officials. However, the numbers speak for themselves.

"We didn't do what we were supposed to do," Smith said.

One reason was the loss in the first half of star player Michelle Ritterbach, who finished with just six points, or nine below her average.

Ritterbach finished the first half on the bench getting treatment.

Canton was in the double bonus early in each half.

Brianna Powell had a good night with 12 points (2 threes) and although Michelle was off on her scoring she still pulled down nine rebounds.

In spite of it all, the Lady Jackets still own a 19-8 seasons record and a 4-1 mark in 14-3A.

Van and Wills Point are slated this week. The Lady Jackets close out their regular season against Canton on Kemp's home court.

Lady Jackets roar past Mineola, 51-35

Kemp's Lady Jackets overwhelmed Mineola in the opening period with a 21-2 run and never looked back, winning 51-36.

"We played almost a perfect  quarter defensively outscoring Mineola 21-2; their only bucket coming in the last fifteen seconds of the quarter off of a steal," said Coach Kent.

"Our defense held them scoreless for almost the entire period causing multiple turnovers off the press along with  steals in the halfcourt," he said.

Michelle Ritterbach started off with 8 points in the first (2 threes) and Amanda Lawrence had 9 points (one three).

The Lady Jackets kept Mineola off balance the entire game with a full court pressure, causing 32 turnovers and having 15 steals.

Ritterbach had 19 points (three 3s, just missed a double double with 9 rebounds), Lawrence had 13 points (two 3's) and Brittany Simmons had 9 points (one 3, 5 assists, and she added another charge to her State-Leading total of 23).  Underneath, Shannon Shipp had 5 points and 7 rebounds.

Kemp finished the game at 19-7 for the year and 4-0 in district, leading up to what would become their first district loss against Canton.
