Lady Jackets making a name for themselves

Kemp beats Miller Grove; 54-30

The Lady Jackets from Kemp are starting to raise a few eyebrows around the lake area after winning 14 or their first 16 hoop games.

The Jackets beat Miller Grove, 54-30, Monday night for their 14th victory. They were beaten for only the second time all season, 49-31, by Class 4A Lindale last Saturday night.

Kaufman Holiday Tournament

The Mabank girls basketball team will be taking part in the Kaufman Holiday Tournament on Monday, Dec. 28 with a game against Paris, set for 10:30 p.m. in the junior high gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers will play Paris in the opening around. An earlier game takes place between Athens and Poteet at 9 a.m. in the same gym.

The loser end of the bracket, not to be confused with the normal consolation bracket, features North Mesquite against Greenville in a noon game at the junior high gym.

Then at 1:30 p.m., Kaufman is scheduled to meet North Garland, also in the junior high gym.

That takes care of all eight teams first round games, but the day's action will still be far from over. This tournament is designed to give every team four games, whether they win or lose.

Two loser's bracket games are set for 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday. The Athens Poteet loser and the Mabank-Paris loser will meet at 6 p.m. in the junior high gym.

That wil be followed by a 7:30 p.m. contest between the Kaufman-North Garland loser.

From there, all sorts of options are possible, but bottom line, four games right before the start of district, should help all of if teams.
